1995 Inductee
In two Rose Bowl Game appearances, Ted Shipkey never experienced the thrill of victory, but he did make a big impact. A two-way starter for Pop Warner’s Stanford teams that played in the 1925 and 1927 Rose Bowl Games, Shipkey was a two-time All-America end.
In Shipkey’s first Rose Bowl Game appearance, Stanford won the statistical battle, but turnovers gave Knute Rockne’s Fighting Irish a 27–10 victory in 1925. Shipkey caught a 7-yard pass in the third quarter for Stanford’s lone touchdown that day. Shipkey’s second trip to “The Granddaddy of Them All” was a 7–7 tie against a tough Alabama team in 1927.
Following his playing days, Shipkey coached at Arizona State, New Mexico and Montana. He died in 1978.
