Mack Brown coached Texas to victory in the 2005 and 2006 Rose Bowl Games. In the 2005 Game, the Longhorns defeated the Michigan Wolverines 38–37 with a 37-yard field goal as time expired. The following year, Brown’s team won the BCS National Championship at the Rose Bowl Game. In what has been described as the greatest bowl game of all-time, Brown and Texas overcame a 12-point deficit in the final 4:03 to beat USC 41–38. In January 2010, Brown once again led Texas to Pasadena as the Longhorns played in the BCS National Championship Game, but lost to Alabama 37–21.

In all, Brown was a head coach for 30 seasons at Appalachian State (1983), Tulane (1985–87), North Carolina (1988–1997), and Texas (1998–2013). He won the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award as the national coach of the year in 2005. Brown retired following the 2013 season with a career record of 244–122, however, he returned to coaching in 2019 as the head coach at UNC.
