1996 Inductee
John Ferraro was an All-American on and off the football field. The man who played offensive and defensive tackle for the USC Trojans in three Rose Bowl Games also served his country honorably as a naval officer in World War II.
All of Ferraro’s Rose Bowl Game appearances were lopsided contests, with the Trojans losing to Washington 29–0 in 1944, beating Tennessee 25–0 in 1945 and losing to Michigan 49–0 in 1948. In USC’s victory over Tennessee, Ferraro blocked a Tennessee kick that teammate Jim Callahan picked up and carried into the end zone to extend the Trojans’ lead to 25 points.
At 35 years, Ferraro was the longest-serving City Council member in the history of Los Angeles. He was president of the council for 14 years. Ferraro died in 2001.
