University of Michigan star halfback Bob Chappuis helped carry the Wolverines to a 49–0 victory in the 1948 Rose Bowl Game against USC. He set Rose Bowl Game records (since broken) that day with 279 total offensive yards and 14 pass completions. Chappuis also set the Big Nine offensive record in 1947 with 1,395 total rushing and passing yards. In 1947, Chappuis’ performance stunned sportswriters across the nation, earning him All-America honors from the Associated Press, Grantland Rice, United Press International, the New York Telegram and the Chicago Tribune.
Chappuis played professional football with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago Hornets. He died in 2012.
