1958 Rose Bowl Game
1998 Inductee
Earning Player of the Game honors in a losing effort is almost unheard of, but it is exactly what Jack Crabtree did back in 1958. Crabtree’s Oregon Ducks fought valiantly in a heart-breaking 10–7 loss to head coach Woody Hayes’ heavily favored Ohio State Buckeyes.
Crabtree was selected in the 1958 NFL Draft, but he never played in the NFL. Instead, he played briefly in the AFL for the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers. He was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1981 and the University of Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
