Ricky Ervins grew up down the street from the Rose Bowl Stadium and attended John Muir High School in Pasadena before his successful collegiate career as a running back at USC. Ervins ran for 126 yards and a touchdown to help the Trojans top Michigan in the 1990 Rose Bowl Game. He also caught 5 passes for 44 yards that day and was named the Rose Bowl Player of the Game.
Ervins, who also played in the 1988 and 1989 Rose Bowl Games, ranks 12th on USC’s all-time rushing list with 2,337 yards. He had a five-year career in the NFL with the Washington Redskins (1991–94) and the San Francisco 49ers (1995). He was the leading rusher in the Redskins’ victory over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVI in his rookie season.
