Quarterback Jeff Van Raaphorst led Arizona State to its first Rose Bowl Game appearance, and its only Rose Bowl Game win, on January 1, 1987. He passed for 193 yards and two touchdowns and was named Player of the Game in the Sun Devils’ 22–15 victory over Michigan. During his time at ASU, Van Raaphorst broke 21 school passing records, including most passes completed in a game (38, twice) and longest pass play

After finishing his career at Arizona State, Van Raaphorst played one season of professional football for the Atlanta Falcons. A member of the ASU Hall of Fame, he remains close to the Sun Devils’ program as a color commentator for the school’s football games on radio.
