1956 Rose Bowl Game
1999 Inductee

During his first and only Rose Bowl appearance, Kaiser spent the first 59 minutes playing receiver and cornerback. His only previous kicking experience came earlier that year in runaway victories against Notre Dame and Indiana, when he missed both of his field-goal attempts.

But during the 1956 Rose Bowl Game, starting kicker Jerry Planutis missed two field goals, including a 37-yard attempt with five minutes left in the game. So when the Spartans had one last chance to win with the ball on UCLA’s 19-yard line, quarterback Earl Morrall turned to Kaiser in the huddle and told him he was taking the kick.

After a delay-of-game penalty, Kaiser made a 41-yard field goal to give the Spartans a 17–14 win.
