1995 Inductee

Gary Beban used the strength of his arm to earn UCLA its trip to “The Granddaddy of Them All” with an impressive aerial assault to beat USC and win the Pacific-8 title for 1965. He showed his diversity in the 1966 Rose Bowl Game by scoring two touchdowns on the ground in UCLA’s stunning 14–12 victory over previously undefeated Michigan State.

Beban won the 1967 Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, and the Columbus Touchdown Club Award, and was a consensus All-America. In three years as the Bruins’ starter, Beban led the team to a combined record of 23 wins and only five losses.

Beban played in the NFL for two seasons with the Washington Redskins. His contributions to UCLA were recognized when the university retired his number.
