1953 Rose Bowl Game
2004 Inductee
At the beginning of the 1953 Rose Bowl Game, Rudy Bukich found himself on the sideline instead of the field. But it wasn’t long until he was thrust into action following an injury to All-American Jimmy Sears in the first quarter. Bukich would finish the game 12 of 20 passing for 137 yards, including completing five of six passes on the game’s only scoring drive. The Trojans won 7-0 behind Bukich’s 22-yard pass to Al Carmichael, earning Bukich Rose Bowl Game Player of the Game honors. Bukich went on to a 14-year NFL career, earning All-Pro honors in 1965. After his career, he was inducted into the USC Athletic Hall
of Fame. He passed away in 2016.
