The 2024-25 college football season features 13 games that are rematches of past Rose Bowl Games. With conference realignment moving Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington to the Big Ten, many of the rematches are now regular season conference games.
Week 12 of the 2024 college football season features the final rematch of the 2024 season, Oregon at Wisconsin.
In two classic Rose Bowl Game showdowns between the Oregon Ducks and the Wisconsin Badgers, the Ducks emerged victorious, defeating Wisconsin in both high-stakes games, first in a 2012 shootout and again in a 2020 nail-biter. The 2012 matchup saw Oregon clinch a 45–38 victory, while the 2020 game ended in a tight 28–27 finish, with both games filled with big plays, turnovers, and last-minute drama.
In 2012, the two teams shattered records for points, ending the first half tied at 28. Oregon's De'Anthony Thomas wowed the crowd with two long touchdown runs, including a 91-yard dash, while Wisconsin's Montee Ball, the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, carried the Badgers with 164 rushing yards and a score. Despite leading in time of possession, Wisconsin couldn't hold off the Ducks' explosive offense. Oregon capitalized on a critical interception by Kiko Alonso, who was named Defensive Player of the Game, and a late touchdown pass from Darron Thomas to Lavasier Tuinei, sealing the Ducks' 45–38 win as Wisconsin's final drive ran out of time.
In the 2020 Rose Bowl, a more grind-it-out style took over, with the teams trading turnovers and clutch plays in a tightly contested 28–27 Oregon victory. Wisconsin's early advantage in total yards and time of possession couldn't overcome their four turnovers, which Oregon converted into 21 points. Oregon's quarterback Justin Herbert played a key role, scoring three rushing touchdowns, including the go-ahead score after a Wisconsin fumble. Though the Badgers made a final push, penalties and a strong Oregon defense ultimately stopped their comeback attempt, and the Ducks ran out the clock for the win.
